How can I harness the expertise of English as a Second Language (ESL) Specialists?

It is important for Language Arts teachers and English as a second language teachers to establish a close working relationship to do the following:

  • Unpack the curriculum Module Overview, Module Overview: English Language Development, and the three Unit Overviews for each module, using the provided unpacking tools.
    • Test drive assessments and performance tasks to proactively identify needed supports and scaffolds.
    • Identify the linguistic and cultural supports that will be most helpful for students.
    • Analyze multilingual learners’ progress using formative data from Check Language, student conversations, student work, and formative and summative data from module assessments.
