The EL Education K-5 Language Arts curriculum is open source, which means all of the materials you need for teaching can be viewed and accessed online on our website at Curriculum.ELeducation.org. If you’re new to the curriculum, and especially if you’re using all of the components, you may be unsure of the key resources you’ll need and where to find them. In this post we’ll help you figure it all out as we answer the question: What are the key resources I will use when teaching the EL Education K-5 Language Arts curriculum, and where can I find them all?
Many users take advantage of the online resources on our website (our partner Open Up Resources will have additional digital options that integrate with common Learning Management Systems and Microsoft OneNote available soon). Other users also purchase the print version materials (teacher guides and student workbooks). We will address the print materials in the first section.
Orienting to the Print Materials
The screencasts linked below will help you make sense of all of the key resources. Though they are designed with the print materials in mind, they will also help you with the online materials. The screencasts will show you each of the print materials for each portion of the curriculum. You’ll also learn about the contents and how to navigate the materials.

And here’s a list of all of the materials for each section of Module 1.
Orienting to Online Materials
The screencasts and tables above describe the key materials of each portion of the curriculum. Now, we’ll show you where these resources can be found online. The contents are the same whether you access online or in print, but you’ll notice that there are some differences in the organization of the content. For example, the lessons can be viewed online and the supporting materials can be downloaded separately.
You will find that the files are a mix of Word and PDF documents; the supporting materials are Word documents so that you can edit them. All files are organized into zip folders. Follow these links to see step-by-step instructions for accessing each of the following components of the curriculum.
For helpful tips about accessing content online, review the Getting Started section of the curriculum website. Follow the links below for to find specific guidance about different sections of the curriculum.
